It was a tough match in Dundee chaplaincy against a strong Bank Of Scotland side.

There were lots of interesting games and ultimately the stronger team won 5-3. Good luck to Bank of Scotland in the rest of the events.

My game on board 1 was very dynamic

I followed my intuition correctly until my second last move, which was a bad move caused by losing confidence and not even calculating.

Following my intuition and sacrificing a piece (he responded Kf2)

correctly following the intuition again with b5

bottling it with …Nd7 instead of …d4:

…d4 was my intention when I went for …Bb7 but I didn’t calculate anything until I reached the position, then realised I’d missed that bxc3 opens up the rook – cue a massive panic.

White offered me a draw a couple of moves later, and I was sufficiently unhappy with my position not to think too much about declining.

computer evaluation graph:

Some interesting games on other boards, Tom’s game was very tactical and it was good to see new signing Duncan MacDonald beat the always-dangerous Chris James, and to see Mike Cavanagh back at the board.

Thank you to Ross for a great job organising and captaining.
