Before the final round it was potentially all to play for in SNCL Division 1

Leaders Dundee faced Edinburgh 1, and we were only behind due to a draw vs Stepps.

We won our match 3.5-1.5 against Hamilton but it was not to be in the end as Dundee won convincingly to continue their dominance.

Euan was first to finish in a nice IQP game. I won after my opponent rather optimistically ventured the Stafford gambit and the compensation failed to fully materialise. Ross’s game rather resembled chess 960 as both kings were on g1 and g8, with rooks on h1 and h8. Bob had an extra pawn after his opponent gambitted but couldn’t convert. Daniel ground his opponent down in the last game to finish of the match.

We finished an undefeated second place which is something to be proud of, just 1 game point and 1 match point behind deserved winners Dundee City:

In the lightning we came a respectable 7th with a less strong side than for the morning round as there were only four boards.

Paisley A won convincingly, more details can be found at https://chess-results.com/tnr764458.aspx?lan=1&art=4&turdet=YES

Our thanks to Glynis Grant and team for running an excellent SNCL season as ever, and to Thor Saemundsson and team for running the team lightning which I’m told was a great success as well.

Bon Accord will look to enter a B team in SNCL next season, players and especially drivers permitting.
